Composition
A composition is a complete piece of music brought together through the arrangement of melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and formal structures into a unified work; it embodies the creative concepts devised by a composer or songwriter either prior to or during its development and can range from a brief melodic fragment to an intricate orchestral tapestry of layered instrumental parts; traditionally these musical ideas may first appear on paper via conventional notation, chord charts, or more recently in digital formats, with many creators beginning by improvising or drafting motifs on piano, guitar, synthesizer or other instruments before translating those sketches into a fully realized arrangement; in contemporary practice most compositions are crafted and refined inside digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Logic Pro, where producers and composers can build, layer, and polish each element until a polished, finished recording emerges.
