Drums

Drums are percussion instruments that produce sound when struck with sticks, hands, or beaters; they are one of the fundamental elements of music, primarily used to create rhythm, groove, and timing within a song, and in many musical styles serve as the rhythmic foundation that supports other instruments, with drum patterns typically incorporating elements such as the kick drum, snare drum, hi‑hats, and cymbals working together to form the beat and drive the momentum of the track, while drums can be acoustic instruments played on a physical drum kit or electronic sounds generated through drum machines, samplers, and digital audio workstations, and in modern music production producers often program drum patterns using MIDI or audio samples to build complex rhythms, and drums are employed across nearly every genre—including rock, hip hop, electronic, jazz, and pop—where, in digital production environments, they are commonly created and edited in software such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro, allowing producers to design custom drum patterns and shape the overall groove of a track.
