Microphone

A microphone is an audio device that captures sound and converts it into an electrical signal, making it a staple for recording voices, musical instruments, and other sounds across broadcasting, live performances, and music production; it works by detecting vibrations in the air produced by sound waves, causing a small internal component known as a diaphragm to move in response to changes in sound pressure, with that motion subsequently translated into an electrical audio signal that can be amplified, recorded, or processed; there are several types—including dynamic microphones, condenser microphones, and ribbon microphones—each engineered for specific recording scenarios and sonic attributes such as vocal capture, instrument isolation, or live performance use; in contemporary studio settings microphones are typically linked to audio interfaces, mixers, or recording systems, allowing the captured signals to be edited and manipulated within digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro.
