Midi File

A MIDI file is a digital file that contains musical performance data rather than recorded audio, storing information about musical events such as notes, timing, velocity, pitch, and instrument instructions; unlike an audio recording, it functions as a set of instructions that tell a synthesizer, virtual instrument, or digital audio workstation how to produce the music—specifying which notes to play, when to play them, and how they should be performed—making it widely used in music production, composition, sequencing, and with digital instruments, while its reliance on performance data instead of sound means MIDI files are typically very small in size and can be easily edited, rearranged, or reassigned to different sounds and instruments.
