Notes
Notes are the fundamental units of music, representing distinct pitches and durations; each corresponds to a unique frequency that determines how high or low the sound is perceived. In Western notation they are labeled A through G and recur in octave cycles, with accidental alterations such as sharps and flats raising or lowering pitch. Musical staff notation indicates both the pitches and their relative lengths, allowing performers to execute melodies, harmonies, and chords that shape a composition’s structure. Contemporary production often records these notes as audio or programs them via MIDI inside digital audio workstations—such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Logic Pro—enabling precise composition and editing.
