Rock

Rock, a genre of popular music that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom during the 1950s and 1960s, evolved from earlier styles such as rock and roll, blues, and rhythm and blues and has become one of the most influential forms of modern music; it is typically constructed around electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and vocals, with the electric guitar playing a central role through rhythmic chord patterns and melodic leads while the rhythm section of bass and drums provides a strong, driving groove that underpins the powerful energy, expressive vocals, and memorable guitar riffs characteristic of the genre—over the years Rock has branched into numerous subgenres—including hard rock, alternative rock, punk rock, progressive rock, and indie rock—each bringing its own distinctive sound and stylistic nuances; in contemporary music production, rock tracks are commonly recorded in studios with live instruments before being mixed and edited in digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro, where producers often use effects like distortion, compression, and reverb to shape and refine the final sonic texture.
