Sound

Sound is a form of energy produced by vibrating objects, which set adjacent particles in motion and generate pressure waves—compressions and rarefactions—that propagate through media such as air, water, or solids; these waves carry varying frequencies and amplitudes, so that higher frequencies yield greater pitch and larger amplitudes produce louder volume, while lower frequencies result in deeper tones; musical instruments create distinct timbres by generating particular vibration patterns in strings, air columns, or resonant surfaces, each of which produces a unique waveform characteristic of that instrument or voice; in music production and audio engineering this knowledge enables professionals to capture, manipulate, and reproduce sound with microphones, audio interfaces, speakers, and digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro, making mastery of how sound behaves essential to effective recording, mixing, and overall audio design.
